Ian White

Ian White (aka Nigel Dalton-Ginever) is a highly regarded performer, teacher, arranger, composer, repetiteur, and Musical Director with over 30 years of professional experience. After taking up piano lessons at the age of six, Ian became an accomplished pianist during his teens before going on to study piano and composition at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. Whilst there, he completed his first major work (Outcast, a one-act opera), and the overwhelmingly positive response from tutors led to a life-long desire to compose.

After completing his studies at Music College, Ian combined jobs in IT with his work in music for almost 17 years, until redundancy from the former forced him to rethink his career path in 2001. The decision was made to concentrate on a music-only occupation, and he is now fully self-employed full-time teaching Piano and Music Theory in schools as well as to individuals, musically directing choirs and musical theatre companies, accompanying, performing, and working as a session musician in and around Sussex.

As a composer, Ian has written the score for several musicals and orchestral pieces, including a Mass and several Ballet Suites, while his interest in Progressive Rock has resulted in 'Caprice 24' (a set of variations based on Pagannini’s Caprice No. 24 in A Minor), a Requiem for choir and rock band, and 'Jason and the Argonauts' - a 90 minute rendition of the well-known Greek Myth. The latter was performed as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival during May 2015, where it received standing ovations and critical acclaim.

Since 2011, Ian has regularly been seen performing on stage as a core member of Music Box - a four-piece band founded by the legendary bass guitarist Herbie Flowers. As well as playing excerpts from pieces such as 'The Dream Of Olwen', Shostakovich's 'Piano Concerto No.2', George Gershwin's 'Rhapsody in Blue' and Rachmaninov's 'Rhapsody on a Theme of Pagannini', he has created numerous arrangements and original compositions for the quartet - the largest and most complicated being a mini piano concerto titled 'Gershwin Rhapsody', which appears on the group's similarly named debut album 'Rhapsody' (released in 2014). Ian's most celebrated arranging achievement is a 10 minute medley of themes from Jeff Wayne's hugely successful 'The War Of The Worlds', which required a reduction from 9-piece band (plus string orchestra) to only 2 keyboards, bass and drums

Ali White

Ali White has over 20 years experience as a performer, teacher and youth ensemble director, specialising in woodwind instruments.

It was also piano lessons that brought her to music at the age of four, though it was once Ali began studying the clarinet that a world of playing with other people and feeling part of a group via instrumental ensembles opened up before her and has remained a fundamental part of her life ever since.

Her school years were spent performing with almost every kind of musical group you can envisage - from genres as diverse as accordion bands to more familiar youth orchestras. The importance of being able to double on different woodwind instruments quickly became apparent, so saxophones and flutes soon joined the clarinet as a result.

Recording the soundtrack for the opera Zoe (a collaboration between the Brighton Youth Orchestra and Glynebourne Opera House) at Air Studios for a Channel 4 production in 2000 was Ali’s first professionally paid performing work, and with that fee came the realisation that you could actually be paid to have such fun. Performances since have continued to be with ensembles of various sizes and genres, including the 'Straight No Chaser Big Band', 'Auster Saxophone Quartet', 'Horsham Symphony Orchestra', and numerous function and musical theatre pit bands.

Being paid to play continues to be a privilege, but in musical education Ali has discovered another type of job satisfaction. Alongside teaching Flute, Clarinet and Saxophone in schools and to individuals of all ages, one day the opportunity to run a flute ensemble in one of her primary schools presented itself. This was followed by a small orchestra, and then ultimately on an area and county level as part of the ensembles team at the Surrey Arts Music Service.

Encouraging and enabling children to partake in the kind of music making that has so inspired her, whether they chose to play on their own or part of a group, is a real joy.
